(FOX40.COM) — A man was recently arrested after police said he led them on a high-speed motorcycle pursuit through a Northern California county that led to the discovery of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

According to the Sonora Police Department, the 33-year-old man led officers on a pursuit across Tuolumne County, from Sonora to Tuolumne City, and reached speeds up to 80mph during the pursuit, which ended when he tried to drive around a closed gate and hit a post.

Around 1:30 a.m. last Friday, police said they attempted to stop a man on a blue 2006 Suzuki RS 50 motorcycle for a moving violation.

“The motorcycle immediately accelerated to evade the officer, leading him on a pursuit extending over 15 miles,” Sonora Police said. The agency said the man also committed numerous moving violations during the pursuit.

Once the man was taken into custody, police searched him and his motorcycle, which led to them finding over 7 grams of meth and accompanying paraphernalia.

The man was taken to jail for evading police, committing a felony while out on bail, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and driving on a suspended license.
