(FOX40.COM) — The Sonora Police Department is looking for three suspects recently accused of robbing a Walmart in the city.

Police said the suspects entered the store on Tuesday wearing masks, gloves, and hoods, went to the customer service section, and used a hammer to smash the cash drawers from their bases.

Before leaving the Walmart, Sonora Police said one of the suspects threatened to hit someone with their hammer if she did not move out of the way. The people then left the Walmart with the cash drawers and an undisclosed amount of money.

“The three suspects got into a dark-colored Infiniti sedan, waiting with a getaway driver,” police said on Facebook. The agency added that the vehicle fled north through the parking lot to Sanguinetti Road.

Sonora Police said that later in the day, a citizen tip led officers to two of the stolen cash drawers; found on Golf Links Road at Highway 108, about 3 miles west of the East Sonora area. Police added that the cash had been removed from the drawers before their disposal.

The incident is under investigation and police said they are considering the possibility that it is connected to similar robberies occurring throughout the region.
