WESTOVER — This week the Somerset County Board of Education is interviewing six candidates to be the next Superintendent of Schools and will soon have their choices narrowed down to three.

Those candidates will be meeting the public next week during “meet and greet” Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, May 28-30 at 5:30 p.m. at Somerset County Technical High School.

Details about the candidates are forthcoming and will be available on the system website in advance of each event at www.somerset.k12.md.us/SuperintendentSearch .

The person who is selected will succeed Superintendent Dr. John Gaddis whose last day is June 30.

Board of Education Chair Bill McInturff said, “we are looking forward to introducing the superintendent candidate finalists to the SCPS community at these upcoming meetings. Members of the board will conduct the final interviews with each candidate at the conclusion of their meet & greet, and we hope to make a selection by the first week of June.

“From there, the board must seek approval from the State Superintendent before taking formal action on the new superintendent’s contract.”
