    North Coast Repertory Theatre to present award-winning musical Camelot

    Audiences will be treated to an evening of enchantment as North Coast Repertory Theatre presents Camelot, brilliantly adapted for intimate theatres. Lerner & Loewe’s Tony Award-winning fairy-tale musical resounds with such memorable songs as “I Loved You Once in Silence,” “If Ever I would Leave You,” and the beloved title song “Camelot.” Based on the King Arthur legend, it features the iconic characters King Arthur, Guenevere, Sir Lancelot, and the Knights of the Round Table. This epic story centers on a quest for democracy, and justice amidst tragic struggle between passion and aspiration, all set in a world of romance, revelry and magic. Advance ticket sales have been extremely heavy, with some performances already sold out, according to a news release. Reserve tickets now.

    Camelot previews begin on Wednesday, May 29. Opening Night is set for Saturday, June 1, at 8 p.m. The play runs Wednesday, May 29 to Sunday, June 23, with performances on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 7 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. and Sundays at 7 p.m. Added matinee performances at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 31, and Wednesday, June 19. A talkback session with the director and cast is scheduled for June 7.

    Earl Warren Middle School to present Seahawk Showcase

    Earl Warren Middle School’s “Seahawk Showcase: A Night Celebrating the Arts and Student Achievement” will be held Thursday, May 23, from 5-8 p.m. at Earl Warren Middle School, 155 Stevens Avenue, Solana Beach.

    The event features a student art gallery, student awards, musical performances, and a production of Disney’s High School Musical 2.

    Carruth Cellars Urban Winery Summer Solstice Barrel Tasting Party

    Carruth Cellars Urban Winery will host its first-ever Summer Solstice Barrel Tasting Party June 8 at the Liberty Station Tasting Room & Wine Garden Cheese Shop (2710 Historic Decatur, Barrack 17, San Diego 92106).

    The one day event is split into two sessions: Early Bird: 1 - 4 p.m., $70 per person; Night Owl: 5 - 8 p.m., $75 per person.

    Attendees will have the opportunity to sample more than 10 wines straight from the barrel, as well as enjoy a personal pizza by California Poppy Cafe and live music from a five-piece band. They will also have access to purchase “futures” with discounts up to 40% off. Futures is a term used in the wine industry when buying wine still in barrel, then the attendees are contacted in the fall after the wine has been bottled and is ready to be picked up. This year Carruth Cellars will be offering tastes of their 2022 & 2023 wines.

    'Classic Jazz – Four Hands' concert to be held in Solana Beach

    Pioneers in the use of four-hands jazz piano, Stephanie Trick and Paolo Alderighi have earned

    widespread notoriety with their arrangements of classics from the stride piano, ragtime, and

    boogie-woogie traditions, as well as from the Swing Era. In recent projects, they have focused

    on the repertoire of the Golden Age of Broadway and Hollywood, as the songs written for the

    musicals of the stage and screen represent a high point of creative ferment in American popular

    music.

    Blending impeccable technique with mature musicality, the piano duo has performed in a variety

    of venues and music festivals across the United States, Europe, and Asia. Trick and Alderighi’s

    touring schedule also includes performances in schools and universities, as they believe in the

    importance of educational outreach.

    Having played previously in both San Diego and Orange Counties, the duo is returning to

    Southern California and Calvary Lutheran Church will host them in concert and to

    present their exciting “Classic Jazz – Four Hands” program at 6:30 p.m. on May 29.

    Tickets on sale now for Del Mar 2024 summer racing season

    Tickets are now on sale for the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club's 2024 summer racing season, which runs July 20-Sept. 8.

    Track goers can look forward to the fanfare that Opening Day brings to carry through the entire opening weekend – with the Opening Day Hats Contest, Opening Day Party, Del Mar Beer Fest on Sunday, July 21 and more. As in recent years, to elevate the guest experience, Del Mar will be limiting General Admission attendance for Opening Day, according to a news release. Tickets are expected to sell out.     Encinitas Guitar Orchestra to perform 'A Latin Tinge' concert

    The Encinitas Guitar Orchestra, under the direction of Peter Pupping, takes center stage for a captivating performance titled "A Latin Tinge.” The concert is scheduled for Saturday, June 1,at 7:30 p.m., hosted at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 925 Balour Dr., Encinitas. A suggested donation of $20 at the door is welcomed, with seating available on a first-come, first-served basis, no reservations required.

    Embracing a "Latin Fusion" motif for the spring program, the concert delves into the rich tapestry of Spanish and Latin guitar music. Rather than just a mere "tinge," the band's repertoire embodies the essence of Spanish and Latin guitar traditions. The allure of the Spanish guitar lies in its ability to seamlessly blend and influence various musical genres. As the band gears up for the June 1 concert, its rehearsals are abuzz with the vibrant sounds of Spanish guitar, its classical roots, Italian flair, South American rhythms (including bossa nova), Mexican folk melodies, Fijian dance tunes, and the evocative compositions of impressionistic master Maurice Ravel – all of which will be showcased in the performance.     RSF Republican Women Federated to hold meet and greet mixer with candidates

    Save the date: The Rancho Santa Fe Republican Women Federated (RSFRWF) will hold a special event (rather than a general meeting) on Tuesday, May 21, from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. in the La Valle Coastal Club Ballroom, 5690 Cancha de Golf, RSF. Cost: $25/person will include hors d’oeuvres and a no host bar. Reservations are required.

    Solana Beach Friends of the Library to hold Spring concert

    The Solana Beach Friends of the Library invites all to attend its Spring concert, to be held on Tuesday, May 21 at 5:30 p.m. at the Solana Beach Library.

    Returning to the venue once again, Adrienne Nims and Spirit Wind, featuring pianist Dan Bailey and percussionist Gerlando Compilati, will be taking the audience on a musical journey with lush harmonies, mystical melodies, and global rhythms. The band’s music, performed on flutes, saxophones, keyboard and percussion is elegant, earthy, and multidimensional, combining Jazz, Latin, Pop, R&B, and many different styles from around the globe.

    Adrienne Nims & Spirit Wind have performed at such well-known venues as the Getty Museum of Los Angeles, the California Center for the Arts, the San Diego Zoo, Quail Botanical Gardens, as well as major jazz festivals. Come join this wonderful event.

    Note that this performance will begin at 5:30 p.m. and not the usual time of 6 p.m. Parking is free and there is no charge for this event. The Solana Beach Library is located at 157 Stevens Avenue.

    This will be the last Friends Night Out evening for the school year. Friends Night Out will take the summer off and start up again in September.

    Cabrillo Chamber Orchestra to present "English Music for Strings"

    Cabrillo Chamber Orchestra, led by artistic director Gregory Lawrence, will present "English Music for Strings" on Sunday, May 19 at 4 p.m. at Incarnation Lutheran Church, 16889 Espola Road, Poway. The event will feature music by Ralph Vaughn Williams, Edward Elgar, Benjamin Britten and William Lloyd Webber.     Batiquitos Lagoon to host family walk

    Batiquitos Lagoon will hold a family walk on May 18 at 10 a.m. Attendees will be revisiting the local bird population now that the winter migrators have departed for points north. There might be some summer visitors visible around the lagoon. Docents will also share their knowledge of the lagoon environment of plants and wildlife. Bring binoculars or some are available at the Nature Center. This free, family walk is good for all ages. Registration is required. Meet at the Nature Center, 7380 Gabbiano Lane, Carlsbad.     La Costa Canyon High School Music Program to present Spring Pops Concert

    The La Costa Canyon High School Music Program will present its annual Spring Pops Concert for the community on Tuesday, May 21, from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. at the La Costa Canyon High School Theater (1 Maverick Way, Carlsbad, 92009).

    This will be a fun-filled evening starting at 6 p.m. with a jazz combo performance and more outside of the theater. The concert will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the theater and feature student performances from the jazz band, jazz combo, guitar ensemble, rock band, piano instrumentalists and the La Costa Canyon High School Band. Attendees will hear popular music ranging from the turn of the century to modern times. The theater entrance fee is $5 per person and $10 for a family. All proceeds from the event go right back to the music program for new instruments and equipment, repairs and instrumental coaches as well as other expenses.

    'World of Orchids' at San Diego Botanic Garden

    The San Diego Botanic Garden hosts its annual spring orchids showcase, “World of Orchids,” from May 4 through May 27 at 300 Quail Gardens Drive. The immersive display will be in the Dickinson Family Education Conservatory, an 8,000-square-foot, glass-enclosed conservatory. The show includes plants from members of the San Diego County Orchid and Palomar Orchid societies along with orchids and supplies from local businesses. Vendors will be at the garden on certain weekends selling plants, potting supplies and other items. The garden is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily (except Tuesdays). Reservations are recommended for “World of Orchids.” Admission to “World of Orchids” is free for members and an additional $7 for nonmembers ages 17 and older with the purchase of a one-day ticket; no cash transactions.

    Secret Garden Tour in La Jolla

    The La Jolla Historical Society’s 25th annual Secret Garden Tour takes place May 17-18. The event opens to the public some of La Jolla's loveliest private gardens. The tour typically includes historic homes and examples of unique architecture, and there will be musicians and plein air artists along with dining table designs at the various gardens. On the day of the tour, attendees register at the La Jolla Historical Society Wisteria Cottage, 780 Prospect St., where the Garden Boutique will showcase merchants with items for gardeners and homeowners. Attendees receive a program booklet with the locations and map of the secret gardens. The Secret Garden Party is from 6 to 8:30 p.m. May 17. The Secret Garden Tour on May 18 includes a self-guided tour from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Registration opens at 9 a.m. and gardens open at 10 a.m.) A Platinum Tour is from 9:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tickets are $45 -$155.     La Jolla Playhouse to present world premiere musical 'The Ballad of Johnny and June'

    The La Jolla Playhouse will present "The Ballad of Johnny and June" May 28-July 7, 2024. Location: Mandell Weiss Theatre, La Jolla Playhouse: 2910 La Jolla Village Drive, La Jolla.

    Country music royalty Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash remain to this day one of the most famous couples of the 20th Century.
