    High school roundup: Rams cap unbeaten run through EPC

    With one game left to play in the regular season, the Greene Central baseball team was still untouchable entering the week.

    The Rams scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on April 26 in Snow Hill to break a 3-3 tie with Farmville Central and claim their 20th victory in 20 games this season, 5-3. The win also capped a perfect run through the Eastern Plains Conference for the Rams.

    Greene Central (20-0, 12-0) got a double and two big RBIs off the bat of Riley Radford, while Jordan Scott and Will Radford had two hits apiece and Braden Burress and Cameron Taylor knocked in runs.

    Alex Moye led the Jaguars (11-7, 7-3) with a 3-for-4 game that included an RBI, while Trey Williford (RBI) and Brett Cash (2B) had two hits each and Luke Corbett drove in the other FC run.

    Greene Central hosted Croatan on Wednesday in a final non-league game, while Farmville hosted North Pitt on Tuesday.

    Saturday

    D.H. Conley 11, Ayden-Grifton 2

    The Vikings ran away with Saturday’s non-conference game, plating four runs in the fourth inning for a 5-0 lead and never trailing.

    Aaron Holley went five innings on the mound, struck out seven and allowed just one hit for Conley (18-2). At the plate, Adyn Gooding was 2-for-3 with a double, three runs scored and two RBIs, Jacob Scott was 2-for-4 with two RBIs, Rooke Knittle was 2-for-5 with two RBIs and Nolan Winfield doubled.

    The Chargers (13-9) managed just three hits including a triple and an RBI from Camden Wilson, and Brysen Williams had the other RBI.

    A-G hosted Washington on Tuesday.

    April 26

    South Central 13, Rolesville 3 (5 inn.)

    The Falcons won their fifth straight in five innings.

    Mason Hobbs was 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs, while Brody Brannan added two doubles and two RBIs, Christian Chance was 3-for-4 with a double and Tyce Thompson also doubled in the win.

    South Central (16-4, 7-3) hosted Conley on Tuesday.

    April 25

    South Central 17, Jacksonville 9

    The Falcons won their fourth straight at home, surviving a six-run Cardinals first with two in the bottom of the inning and six of their own in the third before running away with the game.

    Brannan shined with two doubles and four RBIs in a 3-for-3 game, and senior Carter Hale was 2-for-4 with four RBIs. Brody Stallings and Thomson both doubled and drove in two, and Rahkeem Williams added a double as part of his 2-for-5 outing.

    SOFTBALL

    April 26

    South Central 10, Jacksonville 0 (5 inn.)

    Haven Roebuck’s personal home run derby continued as she ripped another long ball as part of a 3-for-4, three-run, three-RBI night and South Central won its fifth straight.

    Ava Coward (2-3) also homered and drove in two, Kamdyn Haislip was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI and Madison Zobre was 3-for-3 with three runs and an RBI.

    SC (12-4, 9-1) hosted D.H. Conley on Tuesday.

    Farmville Central 15, Greene Central 0 (3 inn.)

    The Jaguars finished off a season sweep of the Rams in a three-inning shutout capped by a nine-run third.

    Farmville (11-5, 6-4) pounded out 10 hits, including Hannah Sugg going 2-for-3 with two doubles and four RBIs, while Haleigh Long was 3-for-3 with a double, three runs scored and three RBIs, Claire Neely was 3-for-3 with two RBIs, Laycie Eastwood tripled and drove in two, Jayden Speight was 2-for-2 and Aidyn McLawhorn doubled and drove in one.

    Farmville hosted North Pitt on Tuesday, while winless Greene Central hosted Eastern Wayne on Monday and Fike on Wednesday to close out the regular season.

    April 25

    South Central 10, Jacksonville 0 (5 inn.)

    SC ran its current winning streak to five, running up 10 runs on nine hits and stifling the Cardinals two two hits.

    Roebuck continued to destroy opposing pitchers, finishing 3-for-4, cranking a home run and driving in three runs, and Coward was 2-for-3 with a homer and two RBIs. Haislip was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, Zobre was 3-for-3 with and RBI and freshman Hailey Mickey struck out two in five shutout innings.
