    High school roundup: Rams complete perfect regular season

    The Greene Central baseball team will enter the postseason with a zero on the end of its record.

    The Rams improved to 21-0 in Thursday’s regular season finale, a 10-0, five-inning thrashing of Croatan, which entered the non-league game 16-3.

    Austin Hardy struck out 10 and limited Croatan to one hit. Noah Uzell (2-2, RBI), Braden Burress (2-3, 2 RBIs) and Will Radford (2-3) each had doubles for Greene Central, while Easton Creech drove in two runs and Cameron Taylor was 2-for-3 with an RBI.

    Ayden-Grifton 2, Washington 1

    The Chargers cashed in consecutive wins over the Pam Pack to end the regular season on Thursday night.

    All the drama came at the end, as Ayden-Grifton scored the game’s first run in the top of the sixth inning, took a 2-0 edge in the top of the seventh and then fended off a Washington rally in the bottom of the inning.

    Senior Ashton Watkins went all seven innings on the mound for A-G (15-9, 6-6), stifling the Pam Pack to two hits while walking three and striking out three. Jack Ewell doubled home one of the Chargers’ runs and Brysen Williams was 2-for-3 in the win.

    Farmville Central 15, North Pitt 1 (5 inn.)

    Farmville scored seven runs in the top of the seventh inning on Thursday night and finished the regular season with a second consecutive blowout over the Panthers.

    FC (13-7, 9-3) pounded 13 hits, led by Trey Williford, who was 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs. Walker Johnston doubled and drove in three, Alex Moye was 2-for-3 with a triple, three runs scored and two RBIs, Avery Johnson scored three runs and drove in two and Tucker McClung drove in two. Joe May threw four innings and struck out six.

    Kamien Little-Burgess finished the season swinging a hot bat for North Pitt (3-17, 0-12) with an RBI double, and Garrett Bailey was 2-for-2 with a double.

    South Central 16, Northside Jacksonville 4

    The Falcons ran their final regular season record to 18-4 and 9-3 in the Big Carolina 3A/4A on Thursday.

    Rahkeem Williams (2-2) and Brody Stallings each doubled and drove in two runs for SC, while Mason Hobbs and Marcus Byrd each hit triples and Thomas Yarborough, Carter Hale and Lashawn Lovitt had two hits apiece.

    J.H. Rose 11, Jacksonville 1

    Rose ran up another comfortable win, an abbreviated blowout over the Cardinals in both teams’ regular season finales.

    The Rampants (21-2, 11-1) were led by Parker Watson, who went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs, while Justin Grimes was 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs and Ethan Simmons was 2-for-2 with a double.

    SOFTBALL

    J.H. Rose 2, Jacksonville 0

    The Rampants closed the regular season with a shutout win Thursday night, snapping a three-game losing streak.

    Rose scored the game’s lone two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and finished with six hits to Jacksonville’s two. Amira Abulatifa was 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs and Kaleigh Wahlen was 2-for-3.

    Rose finished the regular season 8-13 and 3-9 in the Big Carolina 3A/4A Conference.

    South Central 18, Northside Jacksonville 3 (3 inn.)

    SC won its second straight to finish the regular season on Thursday, scoring 16 runs in the first two innings.

    South Central (14-5, 10-2) got doubles from Blaine Adee (2 RBIs), Haven Roebuck (3 RBIs) and Kamdyn Haislip (2-3, 2 RBIs). Alyssa Johnson and Shykayla Howard also drove in two apiece in the win.

    Farmville Central 14, North Pitt 2 (5 inn.)

    Farmville finished the regular season on a four-game winning streak on Thursday night.

    The Jags (13-5, 8-4) scored nine runs in the fifth inning to put the game on ice. Raegan Hogge led the way, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Savannah Bland and Laycie Eastwood each doubled and drove in two, Hannah Sugg doubled home a run and Corri Houston drove in a pair.

    North Pitt finished the season 6-16, 3-9 in the Eastern Plains Conference.

    Washington 4, Ayden-Grifton 0

    A-G saw its Eastern Plains Conference record evened at 6-6 after a second straight loss to the 15-3 Pam Pack on Thursday.

    Ayden-Grifton (10-9, 6-6) managed just two hits against ace Washington pitcher Emma Orr, who struck out nine and walked none in seven shutout innings.

    D.H. Conley 8, Apex Friendship 5

    The Vikings ended the regular season with a bang, taking down the 17-3 Patriots by overturning a 3-2 deficit with three runs in the fourth inning Wednesday night.

    Conley had 10 hits, led by Taylor Getsinger going 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, while Lena Zurface was 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI, Olivia Hadnott tripled and drove in a run, and Mia Trueblood and Sarah Booth (3B) both went 2-for-3.

    Conley finished the regular season 17-4.

    Fike 20, Greene Central 3 (4 inn.)

    Greene Central finished a winless season on Wednesday night.

    Shelby McKeel drove in a run in the loss for GC, which finished 0-21, 0-12 in the EPC.

    MIDDLE SCHOOL SOFTBALL

    Hope 17, Wellcome 1

    Peyton James pitched a complete game and Anna Rose, Aurora Edwards, Mya Blunt, Reagan Stocks and Braelyn Johnson all had multiple hits for the Mustangs in Thursday’s win.

    Hope beat Wellcome 17-3 earlier in the week. Rose and Edwards had two hits each, and Braelyn Johnson hit an over-the-fence home run.
