Peoria takes new step toward passenger rail service

The plan, which passed on a 9-2 vote with councilmembers Alex Carmona of the 2nd District and at-large John Kelly voting against, would allow the city and other stakeholders to begin work on developing a plan for service. Step one of the project had already been completed, with the city having been placed in the Federal Railroad Administration's Corridor Identification and Development program in December 2023.
