Severe weather possible on Wednesday and Thursday
There will be daily chances for shower and thunderstorm activity from Wednesday through Friday, per an update from the National Weather Service Newport/Morehead City office. A few of these storms have the potential to become severe with the greatest risk for severe weather occurring on Thursday. However, there is still some uncertainty regarding the exact timing and location of thunderstorm activity over the next several days.
Work truck goes up in flames in Morehead City

According to authorities, the incident ensued as a contractor was engaged in laying fiber optic line, leading to their vehicle becoming immobile, subsequently igniting a fire. Fortunately, the sole occupant of the vehicle managed to vacate the premises unharmed.

Work underway on project to preserve scenic Carrot Island
BEAUFORT — Work is finally underway on a long-planned major project to preserve eroding Carrot Island off Beaufort. In early 2022, the county was awarded $1.5 million in grants from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation and the N.C. Land and Water Fund to fund the project.
