Given that construction has yet to begin, many have wondered whether plans for “Camp Samoa” — a reimagined version of the cookhouse with overnight accommodations — are still underway or if Danco Group has quietly scrapped the project.

Another Win for Bar Row: Arcata Planning Commission Clears Way for The Alibi’s Comeback
Bar Row is staggering its way back. The Arcata Planning Commission voted unanimously last night to grant a conditional use permit to Bhupinder Singh, the owner of Greenview Market, that will allow him to reopen The Alibi. It’s split into two sides on the north side of the Plaza: one half, a darker-colored bar; the other half, a lighter-hued restaurant. It’ll take a lot of work to get the building into shape, Singh’s agent, David LaRue, said at the meeting. They’ll need to replace the roof, which has allowed years of rain to destroy the floors and walls. LaRue estimated that the total cost of repairs will be somewhere around a million dollars.

Trader Joe's fans from Eureka, Redding, Mt Shasta favor these 10 items
Dark chocolate, Asian fusion and crunchy snacks rank high among top groceries customers at Trader Joe’s in Redding carry out the door. Most popular items are foods under the specialty grocery store’s brand, said Redding store manager Steve Schaarschmidt. High on the list are snacks that require no preparation, and microwaveable frozen foods that taste like carry-out restaurant meals but are less expensive. With the second closest Trader Joe’s store in Chico, customers from Red Bluff to south Siskiyou County visit Redding's TJ’s to shop the store chain's exclusive products, Schaarschmidt said, and seasonal customers return each year when they visit Lake Shasta, Whiskeytown National Recreation Area and other natural landmarks. “We see quite a bit” of customers who say they're from Mount Shasta and Eureka. “There’s no Trader Joe’s on the coast north of Santa Rosa, so people make a trip and shop for all their friends,” he said. If it seems odd people would drive 140 miles from the Humboldt County coast to visit Trader Joe's in Redding, consider the store's grocery cult status . The Monrovia-based chain's core customers are " not just satisfied, but bordering on fanatic," Forbes reported. Customers placed Trader Joe's at the top

Eureka Beer Icon Lost Coast Hits The Market As Founder Nears 80
One of Humboldt County's most recognizable beer brands is officially up for grabs. Barbara Groom, the longtime owner of Lost Coast Brewery in Eureka, has quietly put the company on the market as she prepares to retire and turn 80 this year. Groom grew a single downtown brewpub into a regional operation with an on-site restaurant and a sprawling production campus on the south end of the city. She has told local reporters she wants to spend her next chapter on the road, not in the brewhouse, and she does not expect the sale to happen overnight, leaving staff and fans to wonder who will take the reins. For Northern California beer drinkers, the prospect of new ownership feels like the end of an era and the start of an uneasy new chapter.
