When the spring semester begins at Cal Poly Humboldt, a group of newly enrolled students in the university's Department of Communication will be taking their seats. One Klamath Dam Removed, Three More to Go...
Copco 2 was removed in August 2023, and work on the remaining three dams is advancing according to schedule. In the article “Klamath Unleashed” (Oct-Dec 2022 issue), author Michael Wier announced that the dams’ owner PacifiCorp had transferred four dams on the Klamath River to a nonprofit to oversee their removal. The plans called for all four dams to be removed by the end of 2024. The project has a $450 million budget with a $50 million contingency fund. The cost is split between taxpayers and ratepayers of utility company PacifiCorp.

Pastor Bodenstab heaped praise and gratitude to all the volunteers coordinated by Rena Short and Maria Guy and to the Del Norte Unified School District volunteers for the use of its kitchen facilities at Crescent Elk in preparing the meals. No food went to waste. Staff prepared meals to go and delivered to individuals throughout Crescent City. Fourquare announced funding to feed those in need fell about $2000 short and sought donations to eliminate the deficit.
