CENTRAL NEW YORK – A quartet of area high school boys tennis teams went through all kinds of weather situations in the weeks leading up to the 2024 season, mostly forced indoors and occasionally getting outdoors.

But it all cleared up early last week to get some action underway, starting with Skaneateles , who right after the solar eclipse took to the court to face powerful Christian Brothers Academy.

And the Lakers got on the board twice in singles, Noah Soderberg prevailing 6-2, 6-4 over Soren Kang and Peter Salzhauer also winning in straight sets, beating Gabriel Yang 6-3, 6-2.

However, the Brothers took the overall match 3-2, with Skaneateles’ doubles teams of James Piazza-Kevin Torrisi and Case Pavlus-Lucas Woodcock both falling in two sets and, in first singles, Jake Salzhauer pushing Chanu Yang in the second set, but still losing 6-2, 7-5.

A day later, against Manlius Pebble Hill, the Lakers absorbed another 3-2 defeat. Peter Salzhauer handled Jon Howard 6-0, 6-1, with Jake Salzhauer and James Lovier rolling past Devan Trikha and Abe Salomon 6-3, 6-3, but the Trojans won every other match in two sets, with Soderberg falling to Jaasim Zaman 6-2, 6-4.

Going against each other last Tuesday, Westhill and Marcellus engaged in yet another 3-2 decision, with the result going in the Warriors’ favor.

Quick points for Westhill in singles came with Shay Smyth and Jackson Fiegel each winning 6-0, 6-0 over, respectively, Tucker Guerrina and Owen Fontaine, but the Mustangs countered with its own singles point.

In doubles, Marcellus had Liam Lundrigan and Will Louer getting past Alex Tyscka and Andrew Sadowski 6-2, 6-3, while Zero and Lucas Stiner earned Westhill’s third point, 6-2, 6-4 over Jakob O’Donnell and Gavin Thompson.
