    Sioux Falls could experience heavy rain through Tuesday. Here’s what to expect

    The Sioux Falls area could see nearly 3 inches of rain by Tuesday night, according to forecasts from the National Weather Service office in Sioux Falls.

    Thunderstorms are expected to begin in the area Monday night, with chances for storms increasing into early Tuesday morning alongside as much as three-quarters of an inch of rain.

    While the chance of severe storms in Sioux Falls is low, rain is expected to continue through Tuesday night, adding another 1-2 inches of rain before tapering off overnight.

    The rest of the week's forecast can be seen below, according to the NWS website:

    This afternoon: A 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms after 4 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 77. North wind around 10 mph.

    Tonight: Showers and thunderstorms likely, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 4 a.m. Low around 58. North northeast wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

    Tuesday: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. High near 64. Breezy, with a northeast wind 15 to 20 mph becoming north northwest in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.

    Tuesday night: A 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 10pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 48. Breezy, with a west northwest wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.

    Wednesday: A 20% chance of showers. Mostly sunny, with a high near 68. West northwest wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

    Wednesday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 48. West wind 5 to 10 mph becoming south southwest after midnight.

    Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 75.

    Thursday night: A 40% chance of showers after 1 a.m. Partly cloudy, with a low around 54.

    Friday: A chance of showers, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 1 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 69. Chance of precipitation is 70%.

    Friday night: A 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1 a.m. Partly cloudy, with a low around 49.

    Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 73.

    Saturday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 54.

    Sunday: A 30% chance of showers. Mostly sunny, with a high near 76.
