    USF, SMSU baseball split double header

    Marshall, Minn. (USF) — The University of Sioux Falls Baseball team split a doubleheader with Southwest Minnesota State University today. SMSU took game 1 3-2 and USF won game 2 4-3.

    GAME 1 – L 3-2

    Jake Ammann got the start for USF in game 1 and threw 4.2 innings. He allowed 5 hits and 3 earned runs in his 23 batters faced. Grayson Skinner came on in relief and threw 1.2 innings. Skinner did not allow a hit or a run.

    At the plate, the Cougars were mostly held in check. Noah Christenson led the way with 2 hits and a run scored. Brady Klehr had a hit and 2 RBI. Tyler Cate , Ryan Gouldin , and Isaac Bonner each had 1 hit as well. Overall, USF had 6 hits, 2 RBI, 4 walks, 8 strikeouts, and 7 left on base.

    GAME 2 – W 4-3

    Logan Anderson got the ball to start for the Cougars in game 2 and threw 4.2 innings. He allowed 4 hits and 3 earned runs while picking up 2 strikeouts. The Cougar Bullpen had a solid game after Anderson as well. Derek Lundgren got that started by throwing 0.2 innings and allowing 1 hit but no runs and picked up the win. Zachary Shastay came in next and threw 0.2 innings of no-hit baseball. Dylan Immel finished the game off throwing the final 3 innings. He picked up the save while not allowing a hit or a run and striking out 3.

    At the plate, USF got the bats going. Led by David Swanson who went 4-4 with a double, 1 run scored, and an RBI. Tyler Cate had 3 hits with a double and a run scored as well. Dane Small , Noah Christenson , Ryan Gouldin , Mitch Iliff , and Isaac Bonner each had 1 hit for the game. Small scored a run and drove a run in. Christenson scored a run and Iliff drove in 2. Overall, USF had 12 hits, 4 RBI, 5 walks, 10 strikeouts, and 9 left on base.

    UP NEXT

    The Cougars are back in action on Friday. They will travel to St. Paul, MN to take on Concordia-St. Paul in a doubleheader starting at 12:00PM.
