SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — Teachers at North High School in Sioux City got treated to a food truck lunch, and in the process, helped a group of students raise money to attend a national competition.

Culinary students in the district’s ProStart program helped make 165 food orders alongside Tyson Sanchez, owner of Daga’s on Wheels. The students served lunch to the teachers as a thank you and to help raise money to pay their way to ProStart nationals at a competition on the west coast this summer.

North High School ProStart teacher Kelsey Miller said that Sanchez is good with community involvement and helping the students, which is why he volunteered to set up the food truck.

“We were asking businesses to help, we’ve sent a lot of students out into the restaurant industry and so we just kind of wanted to work with restaurants, and Tyson just volunteered,” Miller said.

Senior Adam Embrock said that this was all about serving people.

“The thing that really connects me with food is that you’re able to feed other people, and it’s about serving people,” Embrock said.

The nationals will be held from June 28 through July 3 in Seattle, and seven students will be picked to travel with two advisors.
