    UPDATE: Sioux City police say 8-year-old girl not actually abducted

    SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — UPDATE: Sioux City police said that an 8-year-old girl was not actually abducted Monday despite a report saying that she was.

    According to Sergeant John Sanders, after an investigation, they determined there was “not an attempted abduction.”

    Police originally received the report Monday, April 29 at 12:05 p.m. They were alerted of a possible attempted child abduction in the 3700 block of 7th Avenue. Investigators searched the area for evidence, but concluded that there was no such attempted abduction.

    Police say there is “no ongoing threat to the community.”

    PREVIOUS: Police are investigating a case in which a girl said she had been abducted Monday afternoon.

    The Sioux City Police Department said they were alerted around 4:30 p.m. on South Patterson Street after people found an unaccompanied 8-year-old girl . The girl was about about eight blocks from her home. She allegedly said that she had been abducted by a man in a vehicle before had her get out near where she was found.

    Police contacted the girl’s father, and he took her home.

    Detectives are currently treating the case as a kidnapping while they continue to investigate, including gathering surveillance video. The girl is also being interviewed by the MercyOne Child Advocacy Center.

    Police will provide more information as they learn more.
