SIOUX CITY, IOWA (KCAU) – The Siouxland Lightning sled hockey team hit the ice at the IBP Ice Center on Sunday afternoon, engaging in a friendly scrimmage with the Sioux City Police Department.

Roughly ten police officers played against members of the 2023 National Championship team, bringing in a team of officers with various kinds of hockey experience.

The game was geared to support fundraising efforts by the Lightning’s for the upcoming Ride for Kids charity ride that will benefit Siouxland Adaptive Sports, an adaptive organization which strives to encourage and strengthen athletes of all physical abilities.

“We are just trying to promote inclusiveness and letting people know that there are sports and different things out there for the disabled community to be involved in,” Siouxland Adaptive Sports coordinator Tashsa Cowan said.

The Lightning will continue fundraising towards the Ride for Kids event on June 9th.
