FHP: Female pedestrian struck and killed early Monday in NE Marion County
A Silver Springs resident was struck and killed early Monday while walking in an unlighted area of a northeast Marion County road, the Florida Highway Patrol reports. According to the FHP press release, the victim, a 36-year-old woman, who was not identified by name, “was walking within the northbound lane just beyond a curve” on County Road 314A at Northeast 14th Street Road when she was struck by a pickup truck traveling northbound.

Eight dead, many injured in migrant bus accident
At approximately 6:36 a.m., a bus carrying fifty-three migrant workers headed to pick watermelons was involved in a serious accident on highway 40 and SW 148th Court. According to a spokesperson for Marion County Fire Rescue, eight people were killed in the accident and at least eight were transported in critical condition.
Woman struck by own truck and camper, killed
NASHWAUK—A 59-year-old Florida woman died Saturday after being struck by her own unmanned truck and camper trailer as it began to roll from its parking spot in Nashwauk, according to an Itasca County Sheriff’s Office news release. The incident was first reported as a fatal hit and run accident on Second Street near Larue Court around 10 a.m. in Nashwauk. Authorities and emergency personnel responded and performed life-saving measures. However, Hibbing Fire Department personnel later confirmed the victim from Silver Springs, Fla., was deceased on scene. Preliminary investigation determined the accident was not the result of a hit and run, but that the truck and camper trailer began to roll before striking the victim. The name of the deceased is being withheld until notification of family members.

A drunk driving suspect who admitted she had been drinking at Brownwood Paddock Square was found in her car in a coned construction area on State Road 44. Macey Shoemaker, 22, of Ocala, was discovered late Thursday night in a red Dodge Durango in a coned off construction area near the intersection of State Road 44 and Morse Boulevard, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies taser convicted felon after wild ride in stolen pickup
A convicted felon suspected of stealing a pickup was tasered after he was chased down by law enforcement. George Parks, 27, of Ocala, was driving a silver Ford F-150 pickup at about 1 p.m. Thursday on U.S. 301 when a Sumter County sheriff’s deputy spotted the pickup which had been reported stolen the previous day in Marion County. The truck was in the area of U.S. 301 and County Road 124A when the deputy, with the assistance of a Wildwood Police Department officer, tried to initiate a traffic stop.

Preliminary investigation showed that the accident was not the result of a hit and run incident, but instead the victim’s truck and camper trailer were unmanned as they began to roll from their parking spot. Subsequently, the truck and camper trailer struck the victim.
