The man who killed his 40-year-old housemate in Silver Spring during an altercation in their home that was caught on camera will spend decades in prison, the Montgomery County State's Attorney's Office announced.

Andre Moore, 24, has been sentenced to life in prison with all but 70 years suspended followed by five years of supervised probation after being convicted of murdering Michael Sutton in January 2021.

Prosecutors say that on Jan. 18, 2021, the two got into an argument inside a home along Balmoral Drive in Silver Spring that they were sharing.

The verbal altercation escalated to physical violence and ended when Moore shot Sutton in the back of the neck, killing him.

Sutton was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to court documents, Moore fled the home on foot and was tracked down by officers in the woods between the residence and I-495, where he was arrested about a mile away from the murder scene.

The entire incident was captured on surveillance cameras inside the residence.

Moore was convicted in December of first-degree murder and use of a firearm in commission of a crime of violence.

“This is yet another case of senseless, deadly violence involving a ‘ghost gun’ or privately manufactured firearm," State's Attorney John McCarthy said following his conviction.

"The weapon was illegally purchased by (Moore) about two weeks prior to the murder. We send our deepest condolences to the family of Michael Sutton."
