Reality-based training facility opens, hopes to reach first responders across the state and nation
NEW CANEY, Texas (KBTX) - A new reality-based training facility in Montgomery County aims to ensure law enforcement across the state is prepared for active shooter situations. A group of law enforcement and state leaders celebrated opening the one-of-a-kind facility on Monday in New Caney. They met at what appeared to be a school, but it closed down in 2019. Still, signage for students and faculty, classrooms with books and study materials plus a library with shelving and equipment remain.

Cops find meth, weed, and a baby in an Onalaska business
A man was arrested in Polk County on Thursday after law enforcement says they found him with methamphetamine, marijuana, and a baby in an Onalaska business. Polk County Today is reporting that it began with Onalaska Police investigating a theft case, which led them to an unnamed business on Highway 190. Police say within the living quarters of the business they found the drugs and the baby along with 29-year-old Tyler Ray Yarbrough.

Austin — The Texas Workforce Commission is accepting applications for Disaster Unemployment Assistance in six additional counties impacted by the severe storms, straight-line winds, tornadoes, and flooding that began on April 26. As noted in the announcement from Governor Greg Abbott, the amended Federal Emergency Management Agency disaster declaration includes Eastland, Hardin, Harris, Jasper, Jones, Lamar, Liberty, Montgomery, Polk, San Jacinto, Trinity, Walker, and Waller Counties.

Fugitive charged with murder arrested in Splendora
A woman wanted by international police on murder charges is now behind bars after being arrested in Splendora. Leo Acosta Sanchez was captured after officers with Splendora Police Department identified her while performing routine traffic patrol. She was undocumented and known to travel in the area. When her identity was confirmed, additional police arrived, and she was detained.
