BALLARD COUNTY, Ky. (KFVS) - The U.S. 51 Ohio River “Cairo” Bridge was temporarily closed Friday evening after part of a tow boat struck a bridge beam. According to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, the U.S. Coast Guard Ohio River Operations Center reported a harbor tug lost power after retrieving an empty barge from the fleet area just upstream from the bridge.
Canton woman in Lewis County Jail faces possession of methamphetamine charge
CANTON, Mo. — A Canton woman with previous drug convictions in Adams and Hancock counties in Illinois faces more drug charges in Lewis County. A Lewis County Sheriff’s Office deputy conducted a traffic stop for speed in rural Lewis County on May 3. The driver was identified as Leslie A. Kirby, 41. After further investigation, it was determined Miss Kirby’s Illinois driver’s license had been revoked. She was arrested and transported to the Lewis County Jail to be placed on a 24-hour hold pending charges.

Gabriel Parker, 18, of Shelbina, Missouri, drowned on May 19, 2024, at Clarence Lake, located 0.5 miles northeast of Clarence in Shelby County. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Parker was attempting to swim across the width of the lake when he became fatigued and went under the water.
Three from Quincy, one from Hannibal killed in three-vehicle crash on U.S. 36 near Macon
MACON, Mo. — Four people died in a three-vehicle crash on Friday morning on U.S. 36 near Macon. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that a 2018 Toyota Camry driven by Jean Jones, 85, of Macon was southbound and failed to yield, striking a 2012 Chevrolet Equinox that was eastbound on U.S. 36 and was driven by Julie Alspaugh, 56, of Hannibal. Alspaugh lost control of the Equinox, which traveled into the path of a 2016 Freightliner that was westbound on U.S. 36 and driven by Eugene A. Niethe III of Wood River, Ill.

HANNIBAL, Mo. — Two Hannibal men were charged with two counts each of receiving stolen property after their arrests on Wednesday. The 10th Judicial District of Marion County issued felony warrants Wednesday, May 15 on Cody S. Rickey, 33, of Hannibal, and Jeffrey L. Porter Jr., 37, of Hannibal. The warrants stem from a report was made with the Hannibal Police Department on Tuesday.
