Visiting Tibetan monk working on mandala in Brattleboro
BRATTLEBORO, Vt. — Lama Tenzin Yignyen, a visiting Tibetan monk, has been working on a sand mandala of compassion at The River Gallery School of Art. According to the monk, the sacred art form symbolizes love, compassion, generosity, wisdom, and appreciation, and serves as a testament to the beauty and interconnectedness of all beings.

Off the Menu: Greenfield Culinary Institute is training next generation of chefs for free
Getting professional training as a restaurant chef can turn out to be major investment, with tuition and fees at top-tier culinary schools exceeding $50,000 a year. Those fortunate enough to make the cut at Greenfield’s Stone Soup Culinary Institute (SSCI) don’t have to worry about tuition bills, however, since the Institute is free to those attending. It operates as a 100% tuition-free program, thanks to support from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and its Urban Agenda grant program along with contributions from community members and other supporters.

Soundbites: Indie Musician Christina Schneider on Moving to Vermont
A few months ago, I was down in Brattleboro talking with some local musicians and artists near the Estey Organ Museum. (No, it's not a museum full of livers and kidneys floating in jars. But yes, my brain went there as well.) The former factory for reed, pump, pipe and melodeon organs is something of a hangout, as area bands such as THUS LOVE live and rehearse in the apartments nearby.
