Rome High School Wind Ensemble brings holiday music to Rotary Club
The Rotary Club of Rome was treated to Christmas and holiday music Thursday, Dec. 18, as the Rome High School Wind Ensemble performed during the club’s luncheon meeting. The ensemble, made up of the school’s advanced and mastery band students, played a mix of traditional and nontraditional selections, including a new piece titled “Winterscape” and a “really, really beautiful arrangement” of “It Came Upon a Midnight Clear,” according to Rome High School director of bands Thomas (Tab) Brown, who presented the program. “This is our wind ensemble,” Brown said. “When we do our state assessment in the spring, they’ll be playing college and professional level literature for a panel of evaluators in the state, and that gives you an idea of just the level of difficulty, and then also the talent and the determination they have to be able to pull that off.” Brown said he is proud of the students’ progress and enthusiasm. “The kids are excited, always excited, to come and play for all of you,” he said of the annual outing to the club’s location at Coosa Country Club. He also emphasized that the program’s success is a team effort, thanking Rome City Schools Superintendent Eric Holland
