Family escapes house fire in Sylvania Saturday evening
SYLVANIA, Ohio (WTVG) - A family escaped a house fire Saturday in Sylvania. Crews responded to a house fire on the 5000 block of Balfour Road around 5 p.m. Officials say the family was home when the house caught fire on the second floor. Everyone was able to get out safely, but the family’s pet rabbit died in the fire. Family members say they’re also still looking for one of their cats.

Central Catholic 70th reunion proves friendships can last a lifetime
For a group of octogenarians who all described themselves as “quiet” in high school, they proved to be anything but. When asked why they were all “quiet” they all said in unison, “The nuns!” Six members of Central Catholic High School’s Class of ‘54 gathered Wednesday to finalize their plans for the 70th class reunion. The event will be held Saturday at Brandywine Country Club in Maumee, 70 years to the day of their graduation ceremony. Dan Puccetti said 72 are set to attend the event. Members will travel from Arizona, Florida, Kentucky, Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio to enjoy what everyone on the reunion committee called their “camaraderie.”

Bryan falls to Canfield in Division II state softball final
AKRON — Bryan's hopes of completing a championship season with an upset of Ohio's top-ranked Division II softball team were derailed early in Saturday's state title game at Firestone Stadium in Akron. The Golden Bears (22-6) surrendered three runs to Canfield in the opening inning, ultimately losing 4-0 to the Cardinals (27-3). “We really had a great season making history, and making it this far is incredible,” fifth-year Bryan coach Samantha Molina said of the Bears' first final-four appearance. “I know it hurts now a little bit, but there's so much to be proud of.” Canfield, which had previously won a D-II state championship in 2008, finished one win short of a second title last season, falling 9-0 to champion Tallmadge in the D-II final here.
