SELMA, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – Rosa’s Pizza had been in Selma for 31 years before being forced to close down in July of 2023.

Fernando DaRosa has been around Rosa’s Pizza since the beginning.

“It started off as my father’s business and then my sister and I ran it,” DaRosa said.

He says after 31 years he was faced with no other option than to close the restaurant after the pandemic and subsequent inflation had severely affected him financially.

DaRosa had no intention of reopening the restaurant until his former customer-turned-good friend reached out to him with a proposition.

Luis Baez had been a loyal customer at Rosa’s Pizza for years and he says that when he heard it was closing, he approached DaRosa about finding a way to keep the business alive.

“We wanted to figure out a way that we could bring Rosa’s Pizza back to Selma and keep it here for another 30-plus years,” Baez said.

He says he and DaRosa are excited about the reopening and they’re hoping to excite returning customers with new additions to their menu.

“The positive of bringing it back is going to be making sure we have the original Rosa’s Pizza recipes,” Baez said, “plus we’re going to be adding a lot of exciting items like carne asada pizza, chile verde pizza, flaming hot Cheetos pizza, we are going to be adding clam chowder, and a lot more things.”

Baez says he’s hoping to have Rosa’s Pizza up and running again by early May.
