Selma provided the foundation for Gilley Minter’s future success.

Minter recently earned a master’s degree at the University of Alabama in marriage and family therapy. She will soon receive a license in marriage and family therapy.

“While the title only indicates families and couples, I plan to work as a therapist for individuals, couples, families, and children,” Minter said. “Moving forward, I’m planning on going to Chattanooga (Tennessee) and working with clients to help them resolve their issues and live more fulfilling lives.”

Minter, a 2017 graduate of Morgan Academy, credits Selma for her career path.

“Growing up in Selma shaped my perspective on how I view the world,” Minter said. “That perspective helps me work and connect with my clients. Growing up in a small community allowed me to see how much people can impact and change one another. Life can seem so big and daunting, but it really is the people in our lives who shape it and make it what it is. Growing up in Selma helped me see the impact a community can have.”

Three years ago, Minter earned a bachelor’s degree from Alabama for human development and family studies with a concentration in early childhood education.
