Bigfork Community Players present 'The Foreigner'
The Bigfork Community Players is producing Larry Shue’s dramatic comedy, “The Foreigner.” The production premieres at the Bigfork Center for the Performing Arts on Feb. 20. The play opens at a fishing lodge in rural Georgia with Froggy LeSueur, a British demolition expert who occasionally runs training sessions at a nearby army base, according to a release. This time Froggy has come with a friend, a pathologically shy man named Charlie, who is overcome with fear at the thought of making conversation with strangers. Froggy helps his friend by introducing him as a foreigner who speaks no English. Subterfuge in place, Charlie is set to learn more than he should as the other guests are loose with their revelations in the presence of this man who “doesn’t understand a word they say.” Director Blaine Wilder said he loves “The Foreigner” because it “lets comedy do the disarming work.” “The play is, on the surface, a fast-paced farce filled with mistaken identities, outrageous misunderstandings, and some truly hilarious moments. But underneath all that comedy lives a quieter story — one about belonging, courage, and the unexpected strength we find when others believe in us,” Wilder said. Patty Thiel plays Liv Musser,

Hot Springs celebrates Year of the Horse
The community of Hot Springs sure knows how to bring the community together. For the 15th year Hot Springs celebrated Chinese Lunar New Year, the Year of the Horse, with gusto. A crowd numbered in the hundreds lined Main Street in anticipation for the 15th annual celebration of the Chinese Lunar New Year. Preparations for the event started at noon beside the senior center putting the finished touches of the parade floats, which included a bull, rat, snake, a very large rooster, a 40-foot-long fish and of course, the traditional dragon. No Chinese parade will be complete without a Civil War replica 6-pounder cannon supplied by local author Rube Wrightsman. The event organizers Curt Kruse and Linny Gibson added a new competition this year to commemorate the Year of the Horse. The event followed the traditional Montana celebration of the western rodeo, except for one slight change. Only stick horses were allowed. The firing of the cannon by Wrightsman signaled the start of the parade. Music for the parade was supplied by 10 drummers with highly tuned drums made out of 5-gallon buckets, a few plastic garbage cans and one official snare drum.
