SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A man charged with rape allegedly tried to run from police during his arrest.

According to the Scranton Police Department, on April 5 a child informed investigators that a man identified as Paul Rixford, 31, of Scranton, committed inappropriate sexual actions towards the victim.

Police say Rixford was brought in for questioning and he denied the allegations against him. When officers informed Rixford that he was under arrest, he tried to exit the room and run until five police officers tackled him down, as stated in the affidavit.

Rixford was charged with statutory sexual assault and resisting arrest. He remains in the Lackawanna County Prison on a $500,000 bail.
