Fairies, knights, and magic gather at Muncy’s Moonlight Market

Muncy, Pa. — Downtown Muncy Inc. will host Moonlight Market, a free and family-friendly event, from 1 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17 at Today Farm in Muncy. The event will combine the atmosphere of a Renaissance faire with a fantasy twist, bringing together artisan vendors, food trucks, local drinks, and entertainment for all ages. Guests can explore the market and shop for unique handmade items before the day turns into an evening of fire performances and after-dark activities. Costumes are welcome, and many vendors will join in with decorated tents and costumes of their own. Entertainment will include armored knights and live combat demonstrations by Exiles Armored Combat. Aerials by Amber will offer chances to try aerial silks, hoop, and trapeze until dusk. Michael Peluso will give live glassblowing demonstrations and lead ticketed workshops where guests can create their own glass pumpkins. Joe Reichenbach will perform live music. Sanderson Sisters character actors from Dreamer’s Hollow will roam the grounds throughout the event, and the Celestial Dragons Collective will perform fire dancing. Muncy Township solicitor predicts no data center ‘in the next 10 years’

Pointing to a newly filed constitutional challenge to the state law the developer has relied on, and to tighter state permitting rules, solicitor Joe Orso said during his report at the Oct. 14 supervisors' meeting, “I don’t see a data center here in the next 10 years."

James V. Brown Library welcomes new staff members

Williamsport, Pa. — The James V. Brown Library has hired Katie Milliren as public services coordinator and Courtney Cizek as development, marketing, and public relations director. Katie Milliren, public services coordinator In this role, Milliren will lead the library’s public service staff and develop ways to improve the delivery of library services. She will also serve as the library’s primary resource for historical materials and archives. She most recently worked as a digitization technician at Backstage Library Works in Bethlehem, where she preserved deteriorating collections from museums, historical centers, and libraries by creating digitized archival records. She previously was a library aide at the Hellertown Area Public Library and an exam proctor at Lehigh Carbon Community College, supporting students from high school to college, GED students, and individuals with learning disabilities. Milliren holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Shippensburg University and a master’s degree in library and information science from PennWest University. “I’m excited to be in a public-facing position to support the community and make a difference firsthand,” Milliren said. “I’m passionate about helping people find the resources they are looking for, and I can’t wait to get to know this community.” Outside of work, Milliren enjoys crocheting

Montour County group joins Capitol rally for data center moratorium

Harrisburg, Pa. — The president of Concerned Citizens of Montour County was among the speakers at a state Capitol rally on Oct. 6, where organizers say more than 250 people from across Pa. called on Gov. Josh Shapiro and legislators to impose a moratorium on data center development. “All they have to fight with is money,” said Sam Burleigh, president and co-founder of the Montour County group. “We have collective voices, elective powers, constitutional laws, and home field advantage. Together we can beat them! Unite and fight!” Burleigh has also previously spoken at meetings focused on Muncy and Gregg townships' proposed data centers. The rally in the Capitol Rotunda was organized by the Better Path Coalition, No False Climate Solutions PA, and 30 partner organizations. Speakers addressed concerns including surveillance, affordability, impacts on health, the environment, and agriculture, threats from artificial intelligence to intellectual property, and the future being left to children. Speakers during the event criticized legislators for what participants described as “putting polluters before people via data center deals that were brokered outside of the public’s view.” The rally closed with speeches on what organizers called the state government’s failure to enforce Pa.’s Green Amendment, Article 1, Section

I-180 deck work in Loyalsock Township closes Broad Street ramp

Loyalsock Twp., Pa. — A deck preservation project continues on Interstate 180 in Loyalsock Township with westbound lane restrictions and a ramp closure set for Oct. 9-11 and the night of Oct. 14, PennDOT says. The contractor, J.D. Eckman Inc., will work on the westbound bridges, including concrete patching and placement of a new concrete wearing surface. Starting Friday, Oct. 9, crews will work in the westbound left (passing) and right (driving) lanes of the bridge over Loyalsock Creek. Work will take place during daytime and nighttime hours, from 7 p.m. Friday through 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 11, and again from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14. Drivers can expect alternating lane restrictions on the I-180 westbound bridge over Loyalsock Creek. The on-ramp to I-180 westbound from Broad Street (Route 2014) in Montoursville will be closed during work hours, with a detour using Broad Street to the East Third Street interchange with I-180. PennDOT urges drivers to remain alert, reduce speeds and use caution when traveling through the project area. J.D. Eckman is the prime contractor on the $1.327 million bridge preservation project, which places a new wearing surface on the eastbound and westbound bridges over Loyalsock Creek.
