Over 100 UCSC Gaza Solidarity Encampment Demonstrators Arrested During 16-Hour Standoff with Police

After 31 days of the UCSC Gaza Solidarity Encampment and two days of protestors blocking the main entrance of campus, police escalation ensued on the late evening of May 30. Throughout the 16-hour confrontation period, police detained 122 students, faculty, and others. Arrested demonstrators recounted experiences of injuries, neglect, and emotional distress.
Saratoga council signs off on new city manager
The Saratoga city council unanimously voted to approve the contract for a new city manager at their June 5 meeting. Matt Morley, previously the assistant city manager for Cupertino, began his first day with the city on June 10, and will officially assume the responsibilities of city manager at midnight on Aug. 5. Morley will be taking over for current city manager James Lindsay, who is departing on June 29 after 10 years on the job.
Massive rabbit rescued on Highway 17 being cared for in Marin County
A huge rabbit that was found by construction workers along Highway 17 and rescued by CHP officers over the weekend is now being cared for in Marin County, according to officials.The large rabbit tips the scales at a whopping 26 pounds.The Santa Cruz CHP office posted on Facebook about the rabbit Monday afternoon, saying construction workers found the animal close Laurel Curve along Highway 17 Sunday night. On the 60th anniversary of its founding, David Bruce Winery has been gifted to an out-of-state college. Located on Bear Creek Road in Los Gatos, the 40-acre parcel became David Bruce Winery back in 1964. The site, which ranges from 1,800 to 2,200 feet above the Pacific Ocean 8 miles away, is planted to chardonnay and pinot noir, along with small amounts of Riesling and Syrah.

Your forecast for Monterey, Santa Cruz, San Benito, and southern Santa Clara Counties…. Temperatures head upward for Tuesday as a strong ridge of high pressure nudges in from the west. With onshore flow persisting, coastal areas will be slightly warm, but fairly seasonable. Inland areas will see highs of 5-15ºF above normal, however! A heat advisory is in place for the interior valleys and mountains during the day (see the full text of the alert below). The ridge will nudge back to the west allowing for a cut-off low sitting to our south to migrate north and eventually get picked back up in the upper level flow. The marine layer will deepen again with a couple of “June Gloom” days expected on the coast Wed/Thu. Temps will even out this weekend as we sit somewhat between influential weather systems, but the northwest wind will be a-blowin’!
Five people hospitalized in early morning crash in Davenport, firefighters say
DAVENPORT, Calif. (KION-TV)- CAL FIRE CZU said that at least five people were hospitalized after an early morning car crash in Davenport. A spokesperson with CAL FIRE said the crash happened on Highway 1 and Cement Plant Road. Firefighters that five people were transported to three local hospital for their injuries. Kite surfer spells HELP in sand; prompts Santa Cruz rescue
DAVENPORT, Calif. - A kite surfer was rescued on Sunday after he spelled out HELP in the sand with rocks, which triggered a successful CalFire helicopter extraction. The state fire agency shared video of the rescue on social media, including the rock formation that saved the kite surfer's life off a beach south of Davenport in Santa Cruz County.
