Review: ‘Spotlight on George’ elevates the quiet Beatle
The Camelot Theatre’s retrospective of Harrison’s career as part of the Fab Four and as a solo artist is well performed by a magical band. George Harrison was a bit of an enigma when it comes to the Beatles’ music — and he demonstrated a fairly solid musical legacy when it came to his own. There is sadness, romance and hope in many of the songs underscored by a diverse rendering of styles: rock ‘n’ roll, blues, folk and even classical. He was not a great songwriter for the entirety of his career, but he wrote some of the Beatles’ greatest songs, including “Something,” While My Guitar Gently Weeps” and the stunning, almost perfect, “Here Comes the Sun.”
