Weekend Sports Recap: Sayreville Softball Shuts Out North Plainfield, Baseball Wins On the Road

SAYREVILLE, NJ - This weekend of sports for Sayreville War Memorial High School featured three teams playing on Saturday, April 27, with both softball and baseball coming away with wins.
Sayreville defeated North Plainfield 18-0 at home on Saturday, mercy ruling them in four innings. Senior Caydence Barton pitched all four innings for the Bombers, throwing a no-hitter with nine strikeouts.
On offense, Josephine Vanore, Mya Infante, and Jillian Bourbeau all earned two hits each for Sayreville, with other hits coming from Caydence Barton, Ashleigh Wisniewski, Sara Williamson, Sophia Matula, and Gianna Falto.
Sayreville will play their next game on Monday, April 29 at Edison.
Sayreville won just their second road game of the season, defeating Monroe by a score of 11-5. Junior Thomas Schlaline and senior Moe Hedderman both had great games on the mound, with Schlaline earning six strikeouts and allowing just three runs through 3.2 innings, while Hedderman earned five strikeouts and allowed two runs through 3.1 innings.
Of the six players that got hits for Sayreville, five of them had at least two or more, led by senior Michael Robinson, who went 3 for 4 at bat with six RBIs and a run scored. Other hits for Sayreville came from Jake Romanello, Jack Zapoticzny, Thomas Schlaline, and Chase Cannan with two each and Justin Marrero with one.
The Bombers will play their next two games against J.P. Stevens, playing them on the road on Tuesday, April 30 and at home on Thursday, May 2.

Sayreville War Memorial loses to Old Bridge 15-2. Senior Abby Mayer and junior Shaylin Handy scored the only two goals for the Bombers, both assisted on by Mackenzie Hastings.
