SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — A collection of artifacts from the writing and publication of the best-selling book Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil can now be viewed by the public for the first time.

The late historian Dr. John Duncan donated 18 boxes of material to the Georgia Historical Society. Duncan was a close friend of author John Berendt and Berendt often stayed with Duncan and his wife, Virginia, at their historic district home while he was researching the characters in the 1990s.

Nate Pedersen, manager of the archival and reference team for GHS, explains some of what the collection includes:

The Midnight collection can be viewed when the Georgia Historical Society is open to the public: Wednesday through Friday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. and the first and third Saturdays of the month from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission for non-members is $5.

The Georgia Historical Society is looking for those with artifacts or stories relating to the creation of the book and subsequent movie to contact Nate Pedersen: npedersen@georgiahistory.com.
