California exodus continues as conservative states attract blue-state residents: Report
Californians fleeing the blue state over its high cost of living are showing no signs of slowing down, according to the latest report by a major moving and storage company. "The Golden State has a reputation for imposing high sales, income, and property taxes. The cost of living is approximately 50 percent higher in California than the national average, and housing costs can be prohibitive," according to a report on 2024 moving trends published by PODS.

San Francisco real estate is expensive, but what does it look like when money is no object? Answer: A gorgeous, humongous mansion with sweeping views of the Bay in the most luxurious neighborhood in the city.Driving the news: If you want to (and are able to) spend big, the 10,180-square-foot house at 2990 Broadway Street in Pacific Heights is the most expensive real estate listing in San Francisco right now. The building was home to philanthropists George "Fritz" Jewett Jr. and Lucy Jewett and has seen plenty of famous people walk its halls, including former President George H.W. Bush and Britain's Prince Philip, the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Berkeley homeowners scramble after insurers end coverage citing fire risk
Like many around the state, Berkeley homeowners are facing non-renewal of their homeowner’s insurance because of the area’s outsized wildfire risk. It’s taken many by surprise and, with the insurance market in California shrinking, has left several with no clear option other than the California Fair Access to Insurance Requirements (FAIR) Plan, which insures homeowners whom traditional insurers will not. Private insurers back the plan, but homeowners say it costs too much and covers too little.
