Five Guys relocates to former Sake Japanese Restaurant location

SAUGUS — After closing its old location in Saugus Plaza, Five Guys will reopen at 670 Broadway, the former site of the closed Sake Japanese Restaurant.

The burger restaurant’s new location was approved for a common victualler license at the Board of Selectmen’s meeting.

Greg Vasey, co-founder and managing partner of Hyde Park Ventures, the firm that owns the franchise, told the board that the firm had been looking to purchase the property that Sake sat on “for the better part of three or four years.”

Five Guys relocating, Vasey said, will also help to “improve that corner,” as Hyde Park worked to get the area ready for the restaurant’s reopening.

Additionally, a vehicle pick-up window has been installed at the new location, so diners who place orders online and through mobile apps will no longer have to wait inside the restaurant to get their food.

A digital tracker system will be utilized to track diners’ locations, so that food can be delivered as soon as possible upon arrival at the restaurant with no in-store intervention required.

“It’s sophisticated,” Vasey said of the technology. “But it’s still the same great cheeseburgers, fries, and everything else.”

Employees of the original location in Saugus Plaza will remain employed at the new location, which will be open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. The new location is expected to open sometime in early May.
