West Virginia State Trooper involved in shooting
FAIRLEA, W.Va (WDTV) - A man was shot and killed by a trooper with the West Virginia State Police in Fairlea Monday. Authorities found Justin Denver Grant when they arrived on scene in regard to a suspicious male brandishing a deadly weapon at 4 p.m., according to a press release.

Hinton Hope Foundation to host The Kevin Prater Band
HINTON W.Va. (Hinton News) - The Hinton Hope Foundation is set to host The Kevin Prater Band on Friday, May 17, at 7 p.m. in the Summers County Memorial Building. The band, from Eastern Kentucky, delivers their “coal-fired Kentucky bluegrass” in addition to classic country, "grassed up" vintage rock, bluegrass gospel, and original songs. The founder, Kevin Prater, started singing professionally at the age of 7. His talents have taken him to 24 countries and across the United States. One of the band members is Summers County’s own, Dalton Smith. Smith graduated from Summers County High School and has been touring with the band since early 2024. Prior to that, Smith was a performer at the famous Hatfield and McCoy Dinner Feud in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Smith is incredibly excited to return to Hinton to perform in front of his friends and family. Proceeds from the event will help HHF in awarding a college scholarship to a local high school senior. The price for each advance ticket (ages 6 and up) is $10 (plus processing fee). Tickets are available at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/kevin-prater-band-hinton-wv-may-17-2024-tickets-832756415857. Three Rivers Youth Theater Holds Workshops
SUMMERS COUNTY W.Va. (Hinton News) - The Three Rivers Youth Theater program celebrated the end of its spring semester by participating in a workshop taught by Sherry Harper-McCombs, a resident costume designer and professor of theatre at Dickinson College. You may have also seen some of her creations at Greenbrier Valley Theater. Each young actor picked a small prop to construct using brown paper, newspaper, cardboard, and wire.
