Man convicted of manslaughter for stabbing friend while visiting Lake Charles
LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - A Beaumont man was convicted of manslaughter after prosecutors say he stabbed his friend while visiting Lake Charles in 2016. Joseph Jamaad LeDay, now 35, was high on PCP when he attacked his friend, Wesley Anderson III, who later died, according to prosecutors. Anderson, who was 40, was found lying on the side of Prien Lake Road with stab wounds after midnight on May 14, 2016.
Liberty bids Pickett farewell, welcomes new leaders
LIBERTY — Tuesday evening brought joy and a bit of sadness as the community gathered at City Hall to celebrate the service of its longest-serving mayor, Carl Pickett. Pickett announced earlier this year that he would be stepping aside after 18 years at the helm in Liberty and friends, family and other elected officials came out to wish him well.
Beaumont police investigate hit-and-run involving BISD school bus and truck
BEAUMONT — Beaumont Police are investigating a crash involving a Beaumont ISD school bus and a truck. Jackie Simien told KFDM that the school bus, numbered 1814, was leaving Beaumont United High School around 2:55 p.m. Tuesday. While on Fannett Road, a truck collided with the bus and left the scene.
County inches closer to updating strategic plan
DAYTON — Stakeholders and community partners assembled Monday for a workshop session to bring the Liberty County Strategic Plan closer to adoption later this year. The plan, an update of the original document that work began in 2016, is what Liberty County Judge Jay Knight refers to as a living document that can be adjusted along the way while helping guide the county and its partners as the community continues to grow.

The Liberty Municipal Library’s “Adventure Begins at Your Library” 2024 Summer Reading Programs are on the way with six weeks of fantastic fun for all area children, teens and young adults. Dayton handles election business, tables zoning issue
DAYTON — Council met Monday night to canvass votes from the May 6 election and handle several pieces of business related to the results. Once council approved the results, after a motion by outgoing council member Sherial Lawson, the winners were officially sworn in, with incumbent Position 3 Councilman John Headrick and newly elected Position 1 Councilman Harry Barnes, Jr taking the oath from Dayton Municipal Judge Alan D. Conner.
