SARASOTA − Chad Davis officially is not the head volleyball coach at Booker High School.

Not yet, anyway.

Tornadoes director of athletics Scottie Littles said he “may have jumped the gun” when making the announcement Tuesday morning.

Littles texted “Chad Davis new Volleyball Coach at Booker High School!!!” Tuesday after he met with Davis.

Davis commented on landing the position and his first orders of business as the coach, such as putting together a schedule for the upcoming season.

However, as an employee of the Sarasota County school system, Davis must be “vetted” Littles said.

That was confirmed by Sarasota County director of athletics James Slaton.

“Any time you hire a new head coach, they’ve got to be vetted first through HR (human resources) to make sure they are hireable,” Slaton said. “And then it a principal’s final decision at that point.”

Slaton said it will be a “collaborative decision between the athletic director, the assistant principal over athletics and the principal.

“Ultimately the final decision falls on the principal.”
