These are the 15 death row inmates convicted in Ventura County

(Editor's Note: This story was updated to include a statement from the Ventura County District Attorney's Office). Gov. Gavin Newsom said he will commute every California death sentence to one of life in prison without parole, calling it the most severe punishment he could lawfully impose and the state could ethically enforce. The governor, who previously issued a moratorium on executions, announced the decision on Nov. 5 – one officials said will mean the 548 inmates with a death sentence would remain in prison and not be eligible for release. "These offenders will die in prison but not by our hand," he said, in an open letter to Californians. Here are the 14 men and one woman convicted in Ventura County on death row: Jeffrey Aguilar: Convicted in 2013 for the Aug. 16, 2008, fatal shooting of Gurmohinder Singh as the 55-year-old businessman left a US Bank branch in Oxnard with $100,000. Tracy Dearl Cain: Convicted in 1988 of beating William Galloway, 63, of Oxnard, to death with a rocking chair and Galloway’s wife, Modena, 55, with his bare fists in 1986. Drone helps nab Newbury Park teen suspected of Thousand Oaks robbery

A 17-year-old was arrested Oct. 17 after he allegedly robbed a Thousand Oaks business and fled, before being captured with the help of a drone. Deputies with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 500 block of North Ventu Park Road around 7:15 p.m. in response to the robbery, according to a news release. The sheriff’s office is contracted to provide police services to the city of Thousand Oaks. Sheriff’s deputies spoke to an employee of the business who said that a person entered the business, made threats and gestures that he had a weapon and stole property from the store, the sheriff’s office said. The employee described the person who robbed the store, and deputies found someone, later identified as the 17-year-old from Newbury Park, matching the description at a shopping center nearby, sheriff’s officials said. The teen allegedly fled from deputies on foot and entered an open space with heavy brush bordering nearby homes, officials said. The sheriff’s office dispatched a member of the Unmanned Aerial Systems, or UAS, team to help locate the youth in the nearby brush using the drone’s thermal camera.
