Two separate developers have submitted proposals to the City of Santa Clarita for mixed-use projects on Old Town Newhall’s Main Street.

The first proposed project would involve the demolition of the existing one-story building at 24317 through 24321 Main Street, formerly occupied by an insurance sales business, a glass company, and the Commando Military Surplus store, which had called the space home for 44 years.

Consultant Kim Williams and applicant Robert Younkin have proposed a three-story mixed-use development to overtake the space. The development would consist of two first-floor retail units totaling 2,400 square feet below a two-floor townhouse.

In addition, the development would also allow for 2,500 square feet of “open space” (which may include balconies, rooftop patios, or yards), as well as 8 parking spaces.

The other, larger, project also proposed on the other side of Main Street was brought forward by the Serrano Development Group, the same developers behind the Newhall Crossings mixed-use project further north on Main Street.

The proposed mixed-use project encompasses 24300 through 24316 Main Street – the current storefront occupied by Mac’s Pool Supply , the adjacent parking lot, and the space proposed for the incoming Horseshoe on Main entertainment/restaurant venue.

The mixed-use project would include approximately 3,361 square feet of first-floor retail space and underground parking, topped by four floors of apartments, totaling 51 units.

Parking would consist of approximately 74 total parking spots on both the first floor and basement levels.

These projects are only proposals, and they would have to be approved to become part of Old Town Newhall’s reality.
