The County Fire Pickleball group held its annual Dinko De Mayo Tournament at the Paseo Club to benefit the Tunnels of Towers Foundation.

In order to help the families of fallen first responders, the Tunnels of Towers Foundation pays off their mortgages.

County Fire Pickleball holds raffles like the one at the Dinko De Mayo Tournament to collect these funds.

Several prizes were up for grabs in the raffle, which was open to the 188 players and the additional 200 spectators. While winning the prize was nice, the fact that their money was going to a worthy cause was even better.

Donations can be sent to County Fire Pickleball via Instagram if anyone was unable to attend but would still like to help out.

“We’re always looking for physical donations items because we can them raffle off,” said Chad Chebbi, one of the organizers of the event. “Our next tournament is going to be a toy drive in December to the Michael Hoefflin Foundation .”

A huge contributor to the success of these tournaments is the Paseo Club for allowing County Fire Pickleball to use their facilities at no charge.

“They allow us to be able to give more money to the charities,” said Chebbi. “A normal club like this would cost us somewhere in the range of $2,000 to $3,000 a day to rent. So they allow us to save that $2,000 to $3,000 and be able to give that to charity.”

Since their beginning in 2021, each tournament has grown. With 90 teams in this tournament, Chebbi hopes to have 180 in the next.

Because the upcoming tournament is a two-day event, players will have plenty of opportunities to hit the courts.

Even though Chebbi hopes these tournaments keep growing, he is grateful to everyone who is helping out right now.

“We’re firefighter-run, we’re blue-collar, and we are thankful for the support that we have received from the local businesses and the people,” said Chebbi. We can’t do this without the people showing up. So to all the people who sign up, I just want to give a heartfelt thank you because we can’t do this without everyone else.”
