West Ranch alumni and current quarterback at the University of Colorado Ryan Staub is set to return to Santa Clarita to host a youth football camp.

Staub’s youth camp will be open to kids in the 6th through 8th grades on May 18 from 2-4 p.m. at West Ranch High School .

It is a great opportunity for the Wildcat and Santa Clarita communities to learn from a Division 1 college quarterback.

“I could not be more proud of Ryan. Not only was he the Foothill Player of the Year and two-time all-CIF QB, but he rivaled his on-field accomplishments with those in the classroom,” said West Ranch Head Coach Chris Varner. “Coupled with his athletic talents, his 4.5 GPA at West Ranch set the stage for him to receive dozens of D1 college scholarship offers.”

Varner finds motivation in Staub’s decision to return to pass on his wisdom and knowledge to future generations.

“ It is that type of athlete that we help mold here at West Ranch,” said Varner. “Ryan is proof that you don’t need to drive out of this valley to a private school to play at the next level. Santa Clarita has the football and academics and if you are willing to work hard, West Ranch can help materialize your dreams.”

During Staub’s freshman campaign in Colorado , he backed Shedeur Sanders.

“He’s been great in the quarterback room and I think he leads by example. He is a great leader, and he proves it on the field every single day,” said Staub. “He’s been really impressive. He makes all the right reads and all the right throws. Being under him and seeing all the things he does is beneficial for me.”

While Staub was sidelined most of his freshman year, he played in three games, one of which he started.

In his first start, against Utah in the last game of the season, he completed 17 of his 24 passes for 195 yards. Staub also threw his first career touchdown to Travis Hunter.

Under the tutelage of Head Coach Deion Sanders, the sky’s the limit for Staub.

Until the next season, you can find Staub at his youth camp on May 18.
