The Master’s University Men’s Volleyball team is coming off its best season in program history, which saw 21 wins and only two losses.

During their stellar run, the Mustangs won their first Golden State Athletic Conference ( GSAC ) season title.

“I think winning a regular season championship speaks to consistency on the year,” said TMU Head Coach Jared Goldberg in an interview with the TMU athletic department. “Winning a tournament, whether the GSAC tournament or the national tournament, speaks to peaking at the right times. We’ve been able to peak and play our best at the end of the year in the past couple of years, but we have not had the consistency in the last couple years that we had this year.”

It makes it easier to win games when there are scoring machines like Diego Perez and Braden Van Groningen, who have a combined 283 kills .

While scoring is important, so is a strong defense and TMU has exemplified that. In their last 10 games, they have only lost four sets.

To put that into perspective, they won 30 sets and only dropped four.

Leading that defense is the best blocker in the GSAC conference, Will Avera, with 71 blocks.

Preston Schmidt and Patrick Paragas, two of the top 10 GSAC players for digs, are helping with the defense efforts.

The Mustangs will need a team effort to make it to the championship in the GSAC tournament.

To get there, TMU has to go through Menlo University Friday at 4 p.m. in the MacArthur Center.
