SANFORD, N.C. (WNCN) – The Lee County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in its search for a suspect who deputies said broke into a church.

The break-in occurred at The Works for Christ Church on Fire Tower Road in Sanford. The suspect tried to steal a safe from inside the church, the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies said the suspect was seen wearing black Nike shoes long dark pants, a long dark trench coat, a dark hoodie and possibly eyeglasses.

The suspect also appears to favor his left leg and has a distinct gait, the sheriff’s office said.
