To help bridge the gap between community members and resources for senior citizens, the Sandy Senior Center, in partnership with the Sandy Public Library and Sandy Area Metro, will host a Senior Resource Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 14.

This is the second event of its kind hosted by the center and it will feature information booths from more than a dozen businesses and government agencies.

“We are providing an opportunity for residents of all ages to engage with multiple organizations in one location,” said Sandy Client Services Coordinator and event organizer Caroleana Smallwood. “It’s important to provide this event for the community as not all residents are aware of these many resources. It can be daunting for an adult child to grapple with their parent’s changing needs. My hope is to provide some helpful resources to navigate the many challenges that aging brings.”

The event will take place at the Sandy Community/Senior Center, 38348 Pioneer Blvd., and is free of charge. Even though the event focuses on resources for seniors, it is open to attendees of all ages.

The theme of this year’s fair is Powered by Connection. As Smallwood explained, the theme is chosen by the Administration for Community Living but coincides well with the center’s mission.

“For us, we encourage our older residents to stay connected with their loved ones and/or friends,” Smallwood said. “This can be as simple as a phone call, a letter, a senior outing (the Sandy Senior Center offers six outings per month) or attending a class or activity at the center.”

Community organizations that will be in attendance for the fair include:
