Throughout the year, the city of Sandy hosts several events for its human residents. From 6-8:30 p.m. Thursday, May 16, the city will host its first event catering to its four-legged, tail-wagging citizens in Sandy Bluff Park, 36910 Goldenrain St.

Yappy Hour, a canine carnival, is planned to be like the city’s longtime Longest Day Parkway, but for dogs.

“The city wanted to do another community event and everyone loves their animals,” said city events coordinator Carol Cohen. “At WinterFest, the pet pictures with the Grinch event had one of the best turnouts.”

Staff members from various city departments and several business partners will provide activities and treats for the pups and their people.

Boring Brewing will be there with beer and cider for adults attending and there will also be food vendors available. For the dogs, one of the businesses will serve puppuccinos.

“I knew everyone would be excited about it,” Cohen added.

Other activities will include a photo booth, an obstacle course and much more. Vendors will include businesses such as Geren’s Farm and Landscape Supply, Mt. Hood Pet Resort, DogTown Gresham, Tractor Supply Co. and VCA Sandy Animal Hospital.

The event is open to all and admission is free of charge.
