Music in the Park kicks off with Elevation
AZLE — For 15 years (13 as a city-run event and two as private), local bands and music fans have spent their summers rocking and grooving at Azle’s annual Music in the Park. After an initial performance by Poo Live Crew was canceled due to lightening May 3, Music in the Park began in earnest the evening of Friday, May 10. Starting at 8 p.m., Emerald City Presents Elevation played for Azle residents at the central park amphitheater for the first time. The band performed pop, party and dance hits through the decades while guests enjoyed meals and snacks from a number of food trucks. The performance concluded by 10 p.m.

Ryann Woods, 8, loves wildflowers. She lights up every time she sees a field filled with blooming flowers. Her grandmother, Rhonda Weaver, immediately thought of a photo of Ryann smiling in a field of bluebonnets when she decided to enter the Fort Worth Report’s wildflower photo contest, which ran in March and April. The Tubman Gallery is turning heads because of its unique approach at exposing the community to powerful art by black and brown artists. “We wanted to actually showcase something that's next level, right? Like where you don't have to go downtown or to the west side or to the art district to actually experience this level of art,” said Dante Williams, Tubman Gallery co-founder.

With “Steel Magnolias,” the Azle Arts Association welcomed two new cast members to its fold, Carla Wicks and Sandy Nienaber.
