Boy, 17, killed in San Marcos shooting

SAN MARCOS, Calif. (KGTV) – A 17-year-old boy died after sheriff’s officials said he was shot at a San Marcos business park late Wednesday night.

San Diego County Sheriff’s Department officials said the shooting took place in the parking lot of a business park in the 900 block of Los Vallecitos Boulevard, near Bingham Drive, at around 11:30 p.m.

Officials stated the victim was among a group of people standing in the parking lot when “an unknown vehicle pulled over on Los Vallecitos Blvd., and an unknown suspect got out of the vehicle, pulled out a firearm and fired several rounds towards the group.”

A 17-year-old Hispanic male was struck by gunfire in the upper body, and he was taken to Palomar Hospital by two people.

The teen died from his injuries shortly after arriving at the hospital, sheriff’s officials confirmed.

A description of the suspected gunman was not available.

The motive and events that led to the shooting are being investigated by the sheriff’s Homicide Unit.
