San Francisco 49ers star has one major goal this upcoming season: Is it attainable?

The San Francisco 49ers are coming off yet another devastating loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl. It represented the second time in five years that San Francisco blew a double-digit lead to Patrick Mahomes and Co. This time, it was especially brutal in that the loss came in overtime.

San Francisco has made it to either the NFC Championship Game or the Super Bowl in four of the past five seasons, failing to come away with the Lombardi Trophy. It really is a slump for an organization that has not won the Super Bowl since the end of the 1994 season.

All-Pro linebacker Fred Warner opened up about the 49ers’ failures recently. He has one clear and obvious goal. Finish.

“I feel like I’m as rejuvenated and excited about this year as I’ve ever been,” Warner said, via SiriusXM NFL Radio . “And I think the goal going into this year is obviously to focus on finishing. I think that’s as point blank as it needs to be. We had opportunities in both Super Bowls that I’ve been in to finish, and we just didn’t get the job done.”

San Francisco is currently the betting favorite to come out of the NFC this coming season. Meanwhile, the Chiefs are the favorite to three-peat as champs in Super Bowl LIX .

We’re sure head coach Kyle Shanahan and the 49ers are continuing to have Mahomes-themed nightmares. In reality, Kansas City is in the midst of a dynasty and is the team to beat.

As for the 49ers, they are high favorites to win the NFC at this stage in the offseason. It’s not necessarily that close.

    • San Francisco 49ers: +600
    • Detroit Lions: +1200
    • Philadelphia Eagles: +1700
    • Dallas Cowboys: +1700
    • Green Bay Packers: +1900

The 49ers won 12 games last season. They averaged nearly 29 points per outing with opponents averaging less than 18.

Young quarterback Brock Purdy put up one of the best seasons for a signal caller in franchise history. He threw for 4,280 yards with 31 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Purdy led all NFL quarterbacks in touchdown percentage, yards per attempt, yards per completion and passer rating.

Stars Christian McCaffrey, Brandon Aiyuk, Deebo Samuel and George Kittle are all seemingly slated to return. Outside of losing defensive lineman Arik Armstead, one of the league’s best defenses remains.

That’s all fine and dandy. But we’ve seen this story before. San Francisco heads into a season as odds-on Super Bowl favorites. It plays like that through 17 regular-season games before failures in the postseason.

As Warner said, it’s time to “finish.”
