( KRON ) – Two Bay Area Express retail stores are closing due to the retailer filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, after 44 years of operation, according to a press release. Express has announced the closure of 95 stores in the United States.

Express revealed the company received a non-binding letter of intent from a consortium led by WHP Global to potentially purchase the majority of its stores. According to Express, the bankruptcy was to "facilitate the sale process."
