    Motorcyclist in ‘life-threatening’ condition after crashing into light pole

    SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — A 20-year-old motorcyclist sustained life-threatening injures Saturday morning after crashing into a city-owned light pole in Sorrento Valley, San Diego police said.

    The crash was reported just before 7 a.m. in the 5800 block of Sorrento Valley Boulevard.

    The motorcyclist was traveling eastbound on the road when he failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway, according to police, causing him to lose control and drive onto the sidewalk where he then struck the light pole.

    The young man was transported to a nearby hospital by ambulance for treatment of serious, life-threatening injuries. According to SDPD, this includes multiple brain bleeds, a collapsed lung, kidney damage, spinal injuries, and fractures to his right arm and pelvis.

    The motorcyclist’s condition is unknown as of 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. No additional information about the incident was immediately available.

    An investigation by SDPD’s Traffic Division remains ongoing. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the unit or to remain anonymous, Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
